Happy Holiday time everyone!! I’m big into Christmastime, but Thanksgiving is probably my favorite holiday, because it’s a lovely American idea – gather with you family, reflect on what you are thankful for, and eat so much you may be ill. I traveled home for the feast this year and had a lovely time arguing with my dad and watching Endeavour reruns with my mom, and generally eating far too much food. I also took a bunch of pictures:
This was the view near take off from Austin
And when we landed in NYC
Thanksgiving Eve fireside chat with my dad and Salty Dog
My dad’s pumpkin pies
My Thanksgiving morning cereal prize
Excellent Thanksgiving dinner prepared by pretty much everyone in my family except me.
(I’m very good at sitting and drinking wine while others cook.)
Salt did not like me taking over his bed
(It took a good five minutes to get him to move.)
My mom and I went to see The Theory of Everything for our annual post-Thanksgiving movie. It was lovely, and I will write a longer review after it gets, inevitably, nominated for some awards.
Followed by our annual Shake Shack pig out
The store fronts on Chapel Street in New Haven all have these beautiful cut paper displays for the holidays
They were done by students from the Paier College of Design in honor of the Shubert Theater’s 100th anniversary. This one is my favorite – Peter Pan in the window at Hull’s Art Supply.
My mom and I play this celebrity initial game and she always wins – she did again…
On my last day in town I met Hanna and some other friends for a reunion lunch at Pepe’s and had a good old-fashioned white clam New Haven pizza.
All in all a successful trip home, and I have plenty of fuel to get through the next week of finals writing and presenting.
